Marian Runk
Marian Runk’s life-long fascination with storytelling evolved from book arts and comics to songwriting and performing. A dancer, birdwatcher, visual artist, political activist, writer, and musician; the breadth of her creativity is felt in every aspect of her music. Dallas-born, Chicago-based Runk’s youth was filled with dance, poetry and singing along with the eighties ladies in the car with her mom. In her thirties, those passions converged when she first joined a queer choir started by friends in Chicago, then fell in love performing and songwriting. Two Wires and a Spark - out on September 13 - is filled with the powerful imagery you expect from someone with such a diverse artistic background. Drawing comparisons to Karen Dalton and Gillian Welch, Runk’s music covers an expanse of themes, including loneliness, (mis)communication, living alongside addiction, dealing with grief, and road trips through the Rust Belt.

Who is singer Fancy Hagood, who’s worked with Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor?
In October, musician Fancy Hagood released his latest album, American Spirit, marking a firm return to his country roots. It’s been an unconventional journey for Hagood, who began his musical immersion in church, where he sang and taught himself to play the piano. When the Arkansas-born singer first moved to Nashville, he was told that he’d never build a career as a queer country musician. To keep his aspirations alive, he chose to move to Los Angeles and switch to pop music, working with stars including Meghan Trainor and Ariana Grande.
The War and Treaty Are Writing Their Love Story Into Country Music History
There’s a dressing room backstage at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville called “It Takes Two” that’s filled with photos of some of country music’s most famous duos. It’s Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter’s favorite spot to get ready before they perform there as the War and Treaty, which is so often, they’ve lost count. They hope to become members someday. (It’s on Tanya’s vision board.) And they don’t want to just be inducted. They want to be the first Black artists on that wall.
Cameron Hawthorn Shoots For The Stars With Only Love
Cameron Hawthorn continues his trek through the pop cosmos with his latest song. Ever the genre-bender, the cowboy decorates “Only Love” with a smattering of country dust encased in dazzling synths and echoing vocals. Production ticks by like a horse galloping onto the horizon, but when the beat drops, Hawthorn grabs your hand and yanks you onto the dance floor.
