Cameron Hawthorn
Cameron Hawthorn defies genres as an American singer-songwriter. His stunning vocals and songwriting blend elements of Country, Americana, Folk, and Pop/Rock to put him in a league of his own. Hailing from a small town in Kansas, he attributes his years of growing up in the Midwest to the authentic and honest storytelling found in his music.

Shaboozey on Embodying the Outlaw, Outrunning ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ and More
When Shaboozey rode charismatically into town last year, armed with one of the biggest hits of the streaming era, ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’, some assumed he'd just be passing through - an outlaw who quickly struck gold, but who would soon be riding off into the sunset with empty pockets, after all the excitement fizzled out.
The Rise and Fall of an Ozark Princess
As a lifelong Midwesterner, and fellow Missourian, I love that Chappell Roan titled her breakthrough album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. That “Midwest” is a little indeterminate, a little generic, but in a way that in American terms feels expansive, open-armed and open-ended, an ideal match for the album’s big, queer, pop ambition. It tracks, too, that a Princess of the Midwest variety would experience her fortunate fall into drag queen aesthetics, as Roan says she did, at the Kansas City, MO, location of drag-themed restaurant chain Hamburger Mary’s. Still, I must admit that I’ve wished more than once that her title had been a bit more biographically precise: The Rise and Fall of an Ozark Princess. Maybe swapping Midwest for the-closer-to-hand Ozark, with its hillbilly connotations and associations with The South more generally, was a necessary first step on her journey out of from the Ozarks and towards Hollywood.
Finding Joy - Joy Oladokun Isn’t Afraid to Speak Out
For Joy Oladokun, being a musician is about far more than writing and recording. It’s about building community. The Nashville-based, Arizona-born artist — the daughter of Nigerian immigrants — has no shortage of laurels she could rest on: nominations for awards including GLAAD Media Awards and the Americana Music Honors & Awards; collaborations with heavy hitters like Chris Stapleton and Maren Morris; and previous opening slots for a diverse array of artists including Hozier, Tyler Childers and John Mayer.
Lu’kas Porter and His Queer/BIPOC Honky-Tonk Celebrates Country Music Diversity
Launched in February 2024, Queer/BIPOC Honky Tonk is a groundbreaking daily web series dedicated to shining a spotlight on Queer, BIPOC, Disabled, and Religious Minority artists within the Country, Bluegrass, and Americana music scenes. Hosted by Lu’kas Porter, the series introduces fans to diverse and talented musicians who might otherwise go unnoticed in mainstream country music. The web series is a celebration of intersectional identities and a call to broaden the lens through which country music is viewed.
