With Beyoncé’s release of new country songs, “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages,” there is currently an increased interest in Black country music stars. Contrary to what many think, the musical genre has always consisted of multiple people of color. Tanner Adell, Brtiney Spencer, O.N.E The Duo, Willie Jones, Reyana Roberts, The Kentucky Gentlemen, Allison Russel, Shy Carter and Breland are some of the newer voices.

Gay Ole Opry

Why queer country music? Because sometimes you love a culture that doesn’t love you back. And when everyone came to the first Gay Ole Opry in April of 2011 in all their country finery, we knew we weren’t alone. We do it because we love the music and want to build a community to support queer country musicians.
