I felt excluded from country music until Beyoncé and ‘Cowboy Carter’ broke down that door

Beyoncé has turned me, a non-country music supporter, into not only a fan of country music, but a fan of Beyoncé’s form of country music. And the rest of the country music genre should follow her direction to keep people like me interested, which will enhance and expand country music’s fan base.

Why queer country music? Because sometimes you love a culture that doesn’t love you back. And when everyone came to the first Gay Ole Opry in April of 2011 in all their country finery, we knew we weren’t alone. We do it because we love the music and want to build a community to support queer country musicians.
